A comprehensive procurement and SCM turnaround programme
A multi-year diagnosis, redesign and implementation programme strengthened SCM processes, data, governance and practitioner capability at SMU.

The challenge
SMU commissioned an end-to-end assessment and improvement of its procurement and supply chain management environment.
The work spanned process design, ERP and analytics, master data, governance, committee support, transformation reporting and day-to-day implementation.
Bareki's role
- Diagnosed SCM operations and developed improved processes, policies, procedures and templates.
- Reviewed procurement analytics and ERP tools, and addressed vendor, contract and item master data.
- Developed a turnaround strategy and full implementation plan, including contract and commitment registers.
- Introduced B-BBEE and ESD reporting standards, practitioner training, bid reviews and tender-committee support.
- Provided day-to-day support to implement the recommendations.
Outcomes achieved
- 01A comprehensive analysis, findings and recommendations report supported by an implementation plan.

- 03Improved procurement turnaround-time measures and visibility of contracts and commitments.
